The Power of Silence
Most people avoid silence like it is a scary monster. There is a compulsion for many people to fill the gaps of silence in their lives with meaningless gossip, TV shows, games, texting, and a multitude of other distractions. But silence is where the Universe began, and in that quiet lies the answer to every problem, the guidance at every crossroads, and the power to move consciously towards a better life. Meditation is a useful tool to access that silence, and therein you will find the answers you seek, and the fuel to grow.
From a more practical perspective, you can apply the lessons of silence to learning English by using it to provide opportunities to formulate more grammatically correct answers: Take a breath before you speak. Take a moment to carefully construct that which you want to express, so it is as accurate as you can make it.
Silence can also help us to feel bored. That might sound strange at first. Why would anyone want to feel bored? However, once you put yourself in a state of boredom, the desire to do more productive things will take hold. For example, would you rather stare at a wall for an hour, or learn something new? The best students I have ever taught, are nearly always the ones who have kept the distractions in their lives to an absolute minimum.
Kind regards,
Dean Teacher :)
